By the numbers: How many people were helped during Florence

Here's a look at how many people received help in North Carolina during Hurricane Florence.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham is now one of 34 counties in North Carolina receiving disaster assistance from Hurricane Florence.

About $624 million dollars in federal funding has been approved for Hurricane Florence survivors in North Carolina. According to FEMA, the organization has paid 14,000 flood claims and answered over 30,000 homeowners in need temporary housing and basic property repairs.

Businesses, homeowners and renters have also received disaster loans through the Small Business Administration.

Eighteen disaster recovery centers remain open in North Carolina, and officials say the centers have seen over 20,000 people.

The mayors of Wilmington and New Bern are currently in Washington D.C. to discuss Hurricane Florence recovery. Bill Saffo and Dana Outlaw will meet with multiple federal agencies on Monday and Tuesday.
