RALEIGH, N.C. — Logging miles while training for a half marathon can take its toll on a person's body, but Beth Deloria is used to the pressure.

The Greensboro woman is set to run her 100th Rock 'n' Roll Marathon event on Sunday when she sets off for the half marathon in Raleigh. She chose the City of Oaks to run her 100th race because she's from North Carolina.

But her next race isn't just a milestone for Deloria — she runs for a cause.

Deloria was born with drop-foot paralysis caused by a birth defect in her spine. The Sunday event will make her the first mobility impaired runner to complete 100 races.

"The best thing is getting to the starting line," she said. "Every time I get to the starting line, I know that I'm going to compete that day. I feel like I've already won, and the rest is just a party."

Deloria said she runs for all those people who can't because at one point she couldn't run and realized how much she missed it.

Three days of events begin Friday with the Health and Fitness Expo, and races begin Saturday morning with the 5K and the one-mile races. The half marathon starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
