First days of spring will likely bring snow, not sun

Monday and Tuesday will be cloudy with some possible showers before the chance for more precipitation goes back up Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

"We're watching Wednesday very closely in the coming days," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said.

Wilmoth said a low pressure system will move into North Carolina late Tuesday night and could force any precipitation to change to snow or sleet early Wednesday morning.

"As it starts to pull away from us, it brings in some cooler air and if we still have some moisture in the area, we have the potential for the change-over to snow," she said.

Wilmoth said there is a 20 percent to 30 percent of seeing an inch of snow fall in the Triangle, but temperatures on Wednesday will climb above freezing, causing the precipitation to change back to rain in time for the evening commute.

Following Wednesday's possible wintry mix, Thursday and Friday will be sunny again, with temperatures in the low 50s.
