APEX, N.C. — An Apex man was held on $1 million bond in the Wake County Jail Thursday after police found drugs, homemade bombs and multiple weapons.

Travis Aurand, of 146 Anterbury Lane, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and deliver, maintaining a dwelling and vehicle for the purpose of selling marijuana and possession of weapons of mass destruction, including assault rifles and homemade explosives, police said.

Police said they made the bust by accident. An officer came to the area shortly after 12:30 p.m. after receiving a call from a neighbor about a barking dog. When they knocked on Aurand's door, an officer smelled marijuana and investigated.

Once the assault rifles and homemade explosives were found, police evacuated residents' homes.

"I really don't know what to say about it. It's scary. It is scary," said neighbor Dana Wells.

Police said they also found a large amount of money in Aurand's residence and two rooms where he was growing marijuana.

Aurand is scheduled to appear at the Wake County Courthouse at 2 p.m. Friday.
