"We fell down into the mid-20s across much of the Triangle overnight," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "Those of you who got up early to grab some deals may have needed to scrape off the windshields. It's chilly out there."
Winds will be light but cool, drifting in from the north between 5 and 15 mph.
"We've got a high pressure system to our west, and that is what's bringing us our cold air from the north and west," Gardner said. "We're going to see this pattern through at least early Sunday."
Highs Saturday and Sunday will climb into the upper 40s and low 50s across the eastern half of the state, and clouds could begin filtering into the region Sunday afternoon as a low pressure system develops off the coast.
Patchy showers could develop as early as late Saturday and linger through Monday, but the amount of rain the Triangle sees will depend on how far west the system drifts, Gardner said.
"It's not going to be a major rain event, but we'll be watching this system on Sunday and Monday to see if it brings us a shower or two," she said.
Daytime highs will hover in the low 50s throughout much of the next week, and overnight lows will be in the uppers 20s and 30s.
