RALEIGH, N.C. — Police on Monday charged a man with second-degree murder in the death of a woman who was crossing a Raleigh street nearly two months ago.

Adetoye Taoheed Adekanmbi, 33, had already been charged with two counts of felony hit-and-run, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and driving with a revoked license in the June 15 case.

Investigators said Natalie Childlaw, 18, was killed while walking across Hillsborough Street shortly before 1 a.m. Her friend, Meghan Clark, also 18, was injured.

Police arrested Adekanmbi about 12 hours later after finding his car outside his home on East Chalfont Way in Cary.

He was in the Wake County Detention Center Tuesday evening under a $500,000 bond.
