ABERDEEN, N.C. — A 25-year-old Harnett County man was shot and killed Friday night at the Country Hearth Inn & Suites on U.S. Highway 1 in Aberdeen, police said.

Investigators responding to the hotel about 10 p.m. learned that Michael Dawayne Corley was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the general manager of the hotel, the victim was not a registered guest.

The shooting was the second at the Country Hearth Inn and Suites in two months. A Georgia man was killed there July 26.

"I don't know what's causing it. I don't know if there is any drug stuff going on. I don't know if it is gang related, but it's a little alarming," said Aberdeen resident Joe Callihan.

Callihan says he carries a gun with him wherever he goes.

"If things are picking up, bad things in the area. My girlfriend is nine months pregnant right now. You got to protect yourself, got to protect those around you," he said.

Authorities have not made any arrests in the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call the Aberdeen Police Department at 910-944-9721.
