Back in November, I wrote about Transactor Improv Company testing a new family show at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro.
That show proved so popular, that the group, the oldest active improvisational theater in the South, is doing it again. The company will perform "Transactors Improv: For Families" at 6 p.m., Saturday.

“Our family show back in November was such a success and so much fun, we just had to add another performance to our season,” said Nancy Pekar, the company’s co-director.

The show is a 45-minute performance featuring short-form improv. Individual scenes run five to 10 minutes and are based on audience suggestions. Everything is made up on the spot. And the content is appropriate for kids and adults. (Transactors' adult shows tend to be PG-13 or R rated).

“The format is very similar to what we did back in November as well as the performances we do in area elementary, middle and high schools,” said Pekar, a mom of two. “Similar but completely different, since it is completely improvised. No two shows are alike.”

Transactors is giving parents, who attend Saturday's show, a little treat. There will be a $10 coupon off a pair of tickets for Transactors' Feb. 11 adult show in the program on Saturday. The Feb. 11 performance is called "The Love Show" at The ArtsCenter.

“We thought that, after a family night out, parents might like to have a date night and see an improv show for grown-ups," Pekar said. "So we’re offering $10 off our next show to help offset the costs of a babysitter.”

The cast for “Transactors Improv: For Families” includes Anoo Brod, Pekar, and Dan Sipp. Tickets for Saturday's show are $8 in advance or $10 the day of. For students and seniors, they are $5 in advance or $8 the day of.
