RALEIGH, N.C. — COVID-19 stay-home orders mean less traffic on roadways.

Some car insurers are taking notice and action. WRAL's 5 On Your Side checked with eight of the largest insurance companies and found some are offering discounts … and the trend seems to be spreading.

Allstate is paying back 15% off monthly premiums for April and May. The company says more than $600 million will be automatically credited to customer accounts used for payment.
USAA says it's giving back $520 million dollars through a 20% credit on two months of premiums. Customer policies must have been in effect as of March 31.

5 On Your Side heard from a customer who actually called USAA earlier this week and was given a $10 dollar monthly credit. GEICO announced it will credit 15% of policy costs on renewals through October.

State Farm told 5 On Your Side they're considering how best to 'return value to ... policyholders.' A spokeswoman told us a decision is expected by the end of the week.

Other insurers, NC Farm Bureau, Nationwide, Amica and Progressive are offering to delay a payment due date if you're experiencing hardship.

You should call your company and ask about options.
