FREEZING RAIN IS JUST RAIN WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING OUTSIDE IT JUST LOOKS LIKE IT IS RAINY, BUT THE TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING AND WE CAN SEE THE ICY SURFACE AND WE CAN SEE THE POTENTIALLY ON DECKS AND A STAIRS AND OF THE TREES AND CARS. AS WE HAD NORTHWARD, ESPECIALLY UP TOWARDS VIRGINIA, WE ARE SEEING THIS CHANGE OVER TO SNOW WITH A LITTLE BIT OF SLEET. THIS IS GOING TO BE EITHER SNOW OR RAIN FREEZING RAIN OR JUST RAIN. YOU CAN SEE THAT OF COURSE AS WE TAKE A LOOK AT THE RADAR. THE PINK COLORS WERE RELOCATED WINTRY MIX. IN THIS CASE, IT IS MOST LIKELY GOING TO BE FREEZING RAIN MIXING WITH A LITTLE BIT OF SNOW. THAT I WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH NORTHWARD AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE MORNING ESPECIALLY ONCE WE GET TO SUNRISE AND EVENTUALLY, THE VIEWING AREA IS GOING TO CHANGE OVER TO RAIN. WE CAN SEE THAT PURPLE RIGHT NOW ALL THE WAY UP TO LEWISBURG. ROXBOROUGH, HENDERSON, ROANOKE RAPIDS ARE SHOWING UP IS BLUE. WE WILL TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAMERAS ACROSS THE AREA AND SEE WHAT WE SEE. HERE'S A LOOK AT THE THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY. THIS IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4:00 "THE FARTHER NORTH YOU GO, THE MORE WORSE THE CONDITIONS YOU WILL SEE. THERE IS A GLAZING OF ICE TO SEE SLICK SPOTS ON BRIDGES. ONCE YOU GET SOUTH OF RALEIGH, IT WILL LOOK LIKE ALL RAIN. LOOK AT THE SNOW COMING DOWN. THIS IS AND ALL SNOW EVENTS RIGHT NOW. WE CAN SEE THIS TRANSITION TO FREEZING RAIN AND THEN RAIN THAT IS LIKELY AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE DAY. THIS IS THE ONLY CAMERA WHERE WE'RE SEEING THE SNOW AND I WOULD SAY THAT IT IS MAYBE 2.5 INCHES AT THIS POINT. IF IT CONTINUES TO FOLIC THAT, WE COULD END UP WITH 1 INCH OR MAYBE AT THE HIGHEST END, I WOULD NOT EXPECTED TO BE MORE THAN 2 INCHES BECAUSE WE WILL SEE THE CHANGEOVER. LOOK AT ROXBOROUGH DOWN THE ROAD. THIS IS FREEZING RAIN BECAUSE THE TEMPERATURE IN ROXBOROUGH IS SHOWING UP AT 29 RIGHT NOW. WE WILL SEE A GLAZING IN THIS TREE. WE WILL START TO HAVE A BETTER LOOK AT HOW THINGS ARE SHAPING UP. IN CHAPEL HILL, THE TEMPERATURES ARE ABOVE FREEZING SO IT IS MOSTLY RAIN WITH A LITTLE BIT OF SLEET MIXING IN. WE WILL TAKE A LOOK AT TO DURHAM SITTING AT 34. CHAPEL HILL IS AT 34. WE HAVE AN AREA WHERE WE COULD BE SEEING SOME SNOW FOR A LITTLE WHILE. FROM STANFORD TO ERWIN. TEMPERATURES WILL BE TOO WARM FOR MUCH OF ANYTHING BESIDES RAIN, ESPECIALLY LATER THIS AFTERNOON. AS 6:15, FUTURE CAST IS SHOWING A SMALL AREA WITH WINTRY MIX. SOME SNOW IN SOUTH HILL NEAR THERE. MOST OF THE VIEWING AREAS IS INTO RAIN, BUT WE WILL HAVE THE ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 4:00 THIS AFTERNOON. WE CAN SEE THE RAIN TAPERING OFF THIS EVENING. WE COULD END UP WITH WINTRY MIX FOR MONDAY MORNING AS WELL. SO, WHAT IS HAPPENING ABOVE US RIGHT NOW IS MOSTLY SNOW. OR AIR IS MOVING TO THE MIDDLE OF THE OFF ATMOSPHERE, BUT MOST OF WHAT WE WILL SEE IS RAIN. THERE WILL BE A FEW PLACES WHERE IT IS FREEZING ON THE GROUND OVER TO THE RAINDROPS FALLING. THEY WILL FREEZE TO THE SURFACES, MAKING DICEY GLAZE AND A LITTLE BIT OF SLEET POSSIBLE. THAT HAPPENS IT WILL HAVE TIME TO FREEZE BEFORE IT REACHES THE GROUND. SECONDARY ROADS IN THE COUNTY IN PARTS OF THE COUNTY, ARE TOTALLY COVERED. With temperatures expected to stay below freezing through Friday morning, the winter weather advisory for the Triangle, including Wake, Durham, Orange and Johnston counties, was extended to noon.

Rain is expected to change over to snow during the early evening hours in the Triangle, which could get up to 3 inches of snow. The system is expected to move out of the region around midnight.

Earlier in the week, the European ensemble forecast said Raleigh has a 42% chance of seeing an inch of snow by Friday. Greenville has a 52% chance of seeing an inch of snow, and Fayetteville has a 34% chance, according to the model.
