The City of Southport is located in Brunswick County along the coast of North Carolina. Its location is near the meeting point of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Florence in September 2018, Bethel Road was washed out leaving 30 Southport residents trapped. The community also saw strong winds that resulted in roof damage.

Southport police: Child missing for a third time in over a decade found, mother arrested

According to Detective Matthew Burgess, Orange County authorities and agents with the State Bureau of Investigation found the boy and his mother, Dreama Ferguson, in a home on Allen Lane in Hillsborough.
