Editor's note: Thompson was reported missing twice when he was one year old and living in Durham County in 2014.

Police in Southport say authorities have found a missing 11-year-old, Andre Amon Thompson Jr., and he is safe.

According to Detective Matthew Burgess, Orange County authorities and agents with the State Bureau of Investigation found the boy and his mother, Dreama Ferguson, in a home on Allen Lane in Hillsborough.

Det. Burgess says investigators arrested Ferguson and served her with a Brunswick County warrant for child abduction. She is currently in custody in Durham County. Andre Thompson is in the custody of the Department of Social Services.

Southport police had found Thompson on Aug. 10 of last year, after he had been reported missing from Durham County about 10 years earlier.

The child was found in the company of his mother Dreama Ferguson, and was placed by the Durham County Department of Social Services under the temporary supervision of a family member in Southport.
