Happy weekend! Here’s what’s happening on the family fun front. As always, check WRAL.com’s Out & About calendar for more ideas.
Raleigh
City Market will host a HoneyFest from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8. Taste honey samples, shop gourmet foods and take part in other activities, some of which will be designed for kids. It's free.
NC Kids Expo is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8, at the NC State Fairgrounds. Tickets are $5 for kids ages 5 to 12, $10 for teens and adults and $25 for a family four pack.
Also at the NC State Fairgrounds, the Raleigh Greek Festival is 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8. The event includes lots of music, performances, food and more. Tickets are $4; $3 for seniors and teens; and free for kids under 13.
CAM Raleigh will host a free family day from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7. The free event includes a make-and-take art project, music, snacks, a DJ and more.
The NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources will kick off its She Changed the World: NC Women Breaking Barriers with an event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, at the State Capitol. The free event will include exhibitors, food trucks, performances and opportunities to learn about inspiring women of the past and present.
Marbles Kids Museum's IMAX theater's Harry Potter Weekends begin this weekend. They'll be screening all the Harry Potter movies. Screenings begin Wednesday, Sept. 5, and run through Sunday, Sept. 8. They start up again next week.
Durham
Taste of Soul NC Seafood Edition is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8, at Durham Central Park. There will be a DJ, games for kids, vendors and more.
GeekCraft Expo is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Durham Convention Center. The family-friendly event offers make-and-take activities for kids, along with a focus on all things geeky. Cosplay is encouraged. Admission is free if you pre-register. Otherwise, it's $2 for teenagers and adults.
Chapel Hill
Spring Haven Farm will host one of its family movie nights with goats. Tickets are $10 each and spots are limited. The movie starts at 8:35 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7.
Cary
North Carolina FC, the professional men's soccer team, will play Bethlehem Steel at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, at WakeMed Soccer Park.
Bonsal
New Hope Valley Railway will host Thomas in the Garden on Sunday, Sept. 8, featuring Thomas the Tank Engine and friends model trains in the railway's model train garden. Real train rides will depart at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and tickets are available for purchase on the railway's website. They are between $7 and $10.
