Wreck causes delays on I-540 east

The wreck occurred at mile-marker 16 near the Capital Boulevard exit ramp. The ramp was temporarily closed while the wreck was cleared.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A wreck on Interstate-540 east at the Capital Boulevard exit caused traffic to be delayed for miles on Friday evening.

The wreck occurred at mile-marker 16 near the Capital Boulevard exit ramp. The ramp was temporarily closed while the wreck was cleared.

The wreck occurred when a car traveling eastbound on I-540 didn't follow the traffic pattern and hit a work van that was parked in the median, the highway patrol said. The driver of the van had pulled into the median to use the telephone.

The driver of the car lost lane control, troopers said. The wreck remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.

The driver of the car suffered non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the van was not hurt. The names of both drivers have not been released.
