CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Campus police at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are investigating a report of assault.

According to a message on the UNC Department of Public Safety's website, a woman told investigators that she was on the porch of a home on Bernard Street in Odum Village shortly before 3 p.m. Monday when a man she didn't know passed by on foot and asked for a cigarette.

When she declined, according to police, the two started arguing, and the man assaulted the woman.

Police have only a vague description of the man but ask that anyone with information to contact Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.
