Woman killed by vehicle while walking on MLK Parkway in Durham

Police said Tawanda Peters, 50, was struck by a vehicle driven by Esther Wilcox, 26, around 6:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway near the road's intersection with Bay Point Drive.

Peters died on the way to the hospital, according to Durham police.

While the incident remains under investigation, authorities said no charges have been filed and speed does not appear to be a factor.
