HENDERSON, N.C. — A 63-year-old Pennsylvania woman died after a car carrying her and six relatives flipped over on Interstate 85 in Vance County Friday morning.

The car flipped over several times, ejecting two people, at the junction with U.S. Highway 1 in Henderson around 7:30 a.m., state troopers said.

The two people who were ejected were taken to WakeMed in Raleigh. The other five were taken to Mariah Parham Medical Center in Henderson, where the 63-year-old woman died. Updated conditions of the other victims weren't available.

Troopers charged Tanya Richardson, 45, of Norristown, Pa., with reckless driving.

They initially believed she fell asleep at the wheel, but after further investigation said they aren't sure she did.

Richardson told troopers that she swerved to avoid a small white car, then over-corrected, causing her car to flip over.

The family was traveling to visit family in North Carolina.
