GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Two people were injured and one killed Tuesday in a wreck on U.S. Highway 117 near Old Mt. Olive Highway outside of Goldsboro.

State Trooper Jason Edwards said Sheilena Brown, 29, of Goldsboro, attempted to turn left onto Mt. Olive Highway and lost control, hitting a tractor-trailer. Her passenger, Annette Gail Grantham, 23, was ejected from the car and died at the scene. Brown and her child, Shakayla James, 2, were injured and taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital.

None of the passengers in Brown's car were wearing seat belts, Edwards said, and Shakayla was not properly restrained in a child seat.

The driver of the truck, Melvin Evans Jr., of Wilmington was not hurt. A third car was damaged when the windshield of Brown's car popped out and hit it. No one else was injured.

Edwards said charges against Brown are pending, based upon the recovery of her child.
