Woman charged in wreck that killed soldier, wife

SPRING LAKE, N.C. — Spring Lake police have charged a woman in the crash that killed a soldier and his wife Saturday morning.

Master Sgt. Stephen W. Booth, 33, a senior Special Forces weapons sergeant, was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 3rd SFG (A). He and his wife, Dawn Booth, were riding a motorcycle when Ruth Ann Furnier pulled her car into their path, police said.

Furnier is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Stephen Booth, of Sanford, is a veteran of five combat tours. He participated in operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

The couple is survived by two sons.
