LOUISBURG, N.C. — A woman was arrested Tuesday in the stabbing death of her roommate at an assisted living facility in Louisburg, authorities said.

Franklin County deputies responded to a reported stabbing at The Jordan, at 90 E. F. Cottrell Road, shortly before 3 a.m. and found Elouise Collier, 88, dead.

Patricia Marrow, 57, was charged with first-degree murder and was taken to the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, in Raleigh, where she was being held without bond.

In a 911 call, an upset employee at the The Jordan said that Collier was lying on the floor in a pool of blood after Marrow stabbed her with some type of blade. The caller said that the two women remained in the room together while he called for help from a phone at the front desk of the facility.

Initially, the caller said that Collier was moving, but when he returned to check on her again she was not.

A few minutes into the call, the man says that Marrow was walking down the hallway towards him and sat down when he asked her too. She no longer had a weapon.

Curtis Hazelwood lives nearby the facility and said he thought it was a nice addition to the community.

"I think it is an asset to the community," he said. "I think it is a tragedy because I haven't heard anything bad at all. All the residents have been great."

No other details were released.

The Jordan, run by Carolyn Newell, has received a four-star rating – the state's highest – from the Department of Health and Human Services for the past six years. No deficiencies in patient care or oversight were noted in recent inspections, only building repairs that were needed.
