FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 42-year-old man who is charged with injuring an 89-year-old woman when he snatched her purse Wednesday evening in the area of Ramsey and Moore streets was taken into custody Thursday, Fayetteville police said.

Edward Nicholas Schwab, whose last known address is 1103 Strathdon Ave., is charged with common law robbery and possession of stolen goods. He was taken into custody at a medical facility at 1724 Roxie Ave.

Investigators say Schwab approached Lila Harrison at about 7 p.m. while she was on her way into church. Schwab began asking Harrison for directions and then grabbed her purse, authorities said.

Harrison fell to the ground, injuring her lip and shoulder.

Schwab was in the Cumberland County jail Friday under a $7,000 secured bond.
