With funding secure, Wake County driver's ed courses to resume
The Wake County Public School System's "Behind the Wheel" driver's education lessons will be available to students again on Monday after state lawmakers agreed to fund the program in a $21.7 billion budget deal passed two weeks ago.

Driving lessons, which are provided by Jordan Driving School, will begin Monday, and classes will resume at Wake County high schools in November, officials said.
"It is important for students and parents to note that those students who have taken the classroom portion but have not yet taken the "Behind the Wheel" portion will be scheduled to drive in the order in which they took the class at their school," school officials said in a news release.
Students who took the classroom portion of the class during the summer will take driving lessons before students who have not yet completed the classroom portion.
Funding for driver's education was in dispute much of the summer as lawmakers worked out budget details. Under the compromise, driver's education will continue as before, but lawmakers used the budget to create a study of how to improve it going forward.
