Wipes maker to expand Oxford plant
An Israel-based company that makes non-woven materials for hygienic wipes plans to expand its Granville County plant, officials said Friday.

Shalag US Inc., the North American division of Shalag Industries Ltd., will invest $16 million in the Oxford facility and create 40 jobs over the next three years as it adds a third thermo-bonding production line, officials said.
The company already employs 74 in Oxford and wants to increase its range of products and reach more customers, officials said.
“When our new line is complete and running at anticipated levels, it will increase our overall production capacity in the U.S. by 60 percent and increase our entire company’s production capabilities by 25 percent,” Chief Executive Jeff Harari said in a statement.
The average salary for the new jobs will be $35,531, plus benefits, which is about the county average.
Shalag qualified for a grant of up to $100,000 from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assistance to attract business projects to the state. Companies receive no upfront money and must meet job and investment targets to obtain the grant, which includes local matching funds.
