The city of Winston-Salem saw its first parade in honor of International Women's Month in partnership with a nonprofit organization on Saturday.
The Legacy Foundation for Women is a philanthropic foundation that celebrates and invests in the lives of women and girls of color through various ways, including scholarships, education and award recognition.

"The parade is to empower and promote the economic development of women-owned businesses in our community," said Alicia Bailey, CEO and Found of Legacy Foundation for Women. "The legacy foundation for women felt that it was noteworthy to highlight all of the gifts and talents and creative things that women are doing to make an impact on our economy, our communities and in our cities."

Each year, the Legacy Foundation will select a Grand Marshal. The Grand Marshal for the 2023 Int'l Women's Legacy Parade is Mayor Pro Temp Denise Adams.

Winston-Salem fire department, women firefighters, female officers, several businesses and organizations, women pastors and ministers, local leaders, and live bands from at least 18 schools in Forsyth county will be attending, according to Bailey.

The parade will be an annual event moving forward.
