WILSON, N.C. — Police said Thursday that they have arrested a man in connection with the death of a 7-year-old Wilson boy killed in his bedroom last week and that they expect more arrests.

Kamari Jones died July 23 after someone started shooting outside his home on Parkview Street. He was inside when a bullet flew through a window and struck him in the head, according to neighbors.

Montavius Syquan Davis, 24, of 7726 Gardners School Road, Stantonsburg, was jailed without bond on a charge of first-degree murder.

Investigators haven't commented on their investigation or offered a possible motive for the crime. Neighbors, however, reported seeing a man between two duplexes firing shots across the street, hitting at least two cars.

"The community’s help allowed us to work this case to a point where an arrest could be made," Wilson Police Sgt. Steven Stroud said in a statement.

He urged anyone who might have information about the case to contact the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.

Jones' death has brought together the local community.

About 100 residents, city leaders and law enforcement officers gathered Sunday night for a vigil outside the Wilson County Courthouse to remember the boy and to call for justice in his death.
