One person was seriously injured after a single vehicle wreck on N.C. Highway 231 near Applewhite Road.

— A 19-year-old from Wendell died late Thursday after a single-car wreck on N.C. Highway 231 near Applewhite Road, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol officials.

Troopers said Joseph Warren Early lost control of his four-door sedan at about 9:40 p.m. near Corinth Holders. The car left the road, hit a ditch, power pole and tree. Early was ejected from the car, according to investigators. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed was a factor in the crash, investigators said, but no other information about the cause of the wreck has been released.

This is so sad. Prayers to the family. Seems like every other day a teen is killed in a car wreck around here. This is so depressing...

Prayers to the family. So tragic.

Yes I know the family personally and it is a great tragedy! Please keep his family and friends in your prayers!

And we will still see some people claim that wearing a seat belt is more dangerous than being unbuckled. I guess that when a parachutist dies when they get tangled up in the lines means you are safer jumping from a plane without a chute.

I hate to see more teens being killed on the roads in this area. Please slow down and wear your seat belt. No one is invincible and some wrecks are not survivable. But you can increase your odds.

Oh no, some poor parents this morning are receiving some terrible news that we all fear!

So sorry for another promising life cut short - please, everyone, wear your seat belts and drive safely.
