Raleigh, N.C. — Motorists could run into delays this weekend on eastbound Interstate 440 because of lane closures, state transportation officials said.
Single lane and inside shoulder closures will be in place from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday on the I-440 bridge over Atlantic Avenue, between the Wake Forest Road and Capital Boulevard exits.
Officials said the closures are needed so crews can remove the bridge’s old concrete deck and replace it with latex-modified concrete.
When the concrete pouring is being done overnight, a second lane will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday; 10 pm. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday; and 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
The work is part of a $2.3 million contract awarded for preservation work on four bridges, including the westbound bridge in the same location, and two U.S. Highway 64 bridges over I-440 in west Raleigh.
