Wayne deputy arrested

Wayne County Sheriff's Office Deputy Randy Avon Thompson was arrested Friday by agents for the State Bureau of Investigation on charges he stole, altered and destroyed evidence.

Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Randy Avon Thompson was arrested Friday by agents for the State Bureau of Investigation on charges he stole, altered and destroyed evidence.

Thompson surrendered at the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office and was given a $5,000 unsecured bond. He resigned his position after 10 years with the sheriff's office.

Authorities began investigating Thompson after a tip from a citizen more than a year ago.

He faces four charges of obstructing justice and four charges of altering, stealing and destroying criminal evidence.
