DUDLEY, N.C. — Two brothers and a third man were shot inside a home at 107 Connies Walk just before midnight Christmas Eve.

The men spent Christmas Day in the hospital, but all three are expected to live.

Curtis Melvin, 37, was shot in the groin, his mother said. His 41-year-old brother, Danny Melvin, was shot in both legs. The third victim was Tristan Bass, 28.

Witnesses told the Wayne County Sheriff's Office that there were at least three attackers who forced their way in, demanded money and opened fire.

Neighbors said the Melvin brothers lived there. It was not clear how many other people were present that the time of the attack.

"This is supposed to be a holiday," said a neighbor. "Kids are opening their presents, but you've got that family right there, they're getting up wondering if their family members are going to live to see the day. It's real sad."

The sheriff's office did not release any information about the suspects, but asked that anyone with information call or text Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255 or submit a TIP at p3tips.com.

"That's something they gotta live with for the rest of their life. They got to deal with that. They got to wake up every morning knowing on Christmas Eve 2018, someone broke into my house and we could have lost our life. I mean, that's terrible," a neighbor said.
