Wayne County names acting manager
Wayne County Manager William "Lee" Smith has taken a leave of absence from his post, which will be filled temporarily by a member of the Board of Commissioners.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Wayne County Manager William “Lee” Smith has taken a leave of absence from his post, which will be filled temporarily by a member of the Board of Commissioners.
Commissioners on Tuesday named Chairman George Wayne Aycock as acting county manager. The appointment came after the board met in closed session, and the reason for Smith’s absence was not disclosed during the public meeting.
A county spokeswoman said Wednesday that Smith will return sometime in January, but she could not provide a specific date. She also could not say why Smith was on leave.
