Warrant: Man found dead in Durham was reported missing
A man found dead inside a Durham townhome Monday morning had been reported missing by his mother a day earlier, according to a search warrant affidavit filed Thursday.

Durham police investigators say in the document that Charles Ellis Hinnant's mother went to his home, at 3082-D Colony Road on Sunday, when his roommate, Brian Davis, told her that he was not home.
The next day when she returned to the apartment, the roommate and Hinnant's 2001 Toyota Corolla "were missing," and there were no signs of forced entry, the warrant states.
The mother, Frances Hinnant, called police, who found her son, 63, dead in the kitchen.
The search warrant says he appeared to have "some sort of wound to his head" and that there appeared to be blood stains elsewhere in the home.
Durham police are investigating Hinnant's death as a homicide, but they have neither named any suspects in the case nor provided any other details about the case.
"Investigators aren't releasing additional details at this time because they do not want to jeopardize the investigation," police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said in an email.

Frances Hinnant said her son was a land surveyor and professional bassoonist who graduated from The Julliard School.
