RALEIGH, N.C. — Fourteen dogs rescued from a suspected puppy mill in Stokes County were taken in Thursday by the SPCA of Wake County.

Many of the dogs are suffering from malnutrition and untreated injuries, SPCA representatives said.

More than 150 animals were seized Tuesday from Dan River Bullies, a breeding operation in Danbury, north of Winston-Salem.

The Humane Society assisted Stokes County animal control officers in the raid and said the conditions were horrible.

The dogs that didn't come to Wake County were sent to animal care facilities in Charlotte and Guilford County.
