Wake Forest teen's Super Bowl wish comes true
Alex Harris, a local teen who has faced a series of health struggles and challenges, is finally getting to see his childhood dream of going to the Super Bowl come true.
Posted — UpdatedAlex, 19, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in March 2011, and underwent six weeks of radiation and 14 sessions of chemotherapy over eight months.
Alex's parents used the big game as a way to help motivate him to fight his life-threatening disease.
"Going to the Super Bowl really got him through a lot of the tough times," his father, Gordon Harris, said. "It really was a motivator."
But Alex was too weak to go to last year's game. Now, he's in remission.
"It was hard, but it definitely changed my life for the better," he said. "It makes you stronger as a person – emotionally, spiritually, mentally."
He plans to use that strength to fulfill more wishes and dreams.
"I would love to be a general manager for the Carolina Panthers," Alex said. "That's my ultimate dream job."
Don't count him out.
Not only has Alex beat cancer, but he has earned an academic scholarship to college and has made it to his Fantasy Football League Super bowl four years in a row.
As for the real Super Bowl, the Harris' say the final score doesn't matter.
"We already won. The three of us at that game will be the best moment,' Alex's mother, Robin Gordon, said.
