WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A Wake County jury on Wednesday found Leslie Edward Smith, 63, guilty of shooting his girlfriend outside their Wake Forest home last summer.

According to the warrant for his arrest, Smith argued with Jaquelyn Larue Gore, 48, outside their home at 3 Kelly Pine Court on July 26, 2009.

At about 2 p.m., Smith called 911 to report that he had shot Gore. When deputies arrived, they found her dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

In the 911 call, Smith can be heard saying, “I shot her point-blank.”

When the dispatcher tried to talk Smith through the process of CPR, he muttered, "This is ridiculous. I just shot her."

According to the warrants, investigators found a handgun on the table and shell casings in the home.
