WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A Wake Forest man was arrested and charged on Friday in connection with the shooting death of his mother on Mother's Day, authorities said.

Ricky Arlen Timberlake, 63, was arrested on Friday evening and charged with killing Jo Dean Timberlake. He was being held in the Wake County jail Saturday without bond.

Police found Jo Dean Timberlake, 82, dead of a gunshot wound inside her home at 812 Durham Road around 5 p.m. Sunday. Ricky Timberlake was in the home and unresponsive when police arrived.

In applying for a search warrant, Wake Forest police noted that Timberlake showed "obvious signs of an attempted suicide by overdose." He was taken to WakeMed, where he had been recovering before his arrest Friday evening.

Neighbors on Thursday said that Ricky Timberlake lived with and took care of his mother. She was in failing health, was diabetic and had fallen a couple times, they said.
