Raleigh, N.C. — A Wake Forest couple was sentenced Wednesday to prison after pleading guilty in the March death of their 17-month-old son, who authorities believe died of dehydration when left alone in a heated room.
Shandu Slaughter, 28, and Kristin Ann Wills, 21, both of 839 N. Franklin St., pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse.
Slaughter was sentenced to 23 to 37 months in prison. Willis was sentenced to 10 to 12 months in prison, followed by 30 months on probation.
Marcus Isaiah Wills was found dead in the family's home on March 20. An autopsy determined that the child had been left unattended in a heated room for several hours.
