Wake family uninjured in overnight house fire

Posted January 12, 2010

— A Wake County family of four lost their home early Tuesday to a fire, authorities said.

Firefighters from Morrisville, Cary, Apex and Durham Highway departments responded to the blaze at 7326 Green Hope School Road, but could not save the house, the battalion chief on the scene said.

The homeowner said his barking dog woke him at around 1:30 a.m. He found fire in the kitchen and was able to get his wife and two children out of the house.

By the time firefighters arrived, the home was fully involved and flames were coming out the windows, the battalion chief said.

No one was injured. The Red Cross was assisting the family.

This home is located directly in the path of the new 540 interstate. In fact, in recent weeks, this family's 30+ acres on which the house sits was timbered to make way for the new road. Caniacincary, their land is NOT worth 2.5 million to the highway department. Their house was due to be eliminated soon anyway.

First, I'm so grateful that all of the people got out safely.
It's terrible that they lost the home, but things, all things, can be replaced. People can't.

How sad that the dog woke them, probably saved their lives and might not have survived. =(

So glad they were all able to escape safely. I sure hope the doggie made it out, too. =(

At least they should be able to rebuild. The house was worth under 40,000, but the land is worth over 2.5 million. Looks like things should work out for them except for the things that can not be replaced such as material family items.

My prayers are will all of the victims of this fire. Thank Our Lord that no lives that we are aware of were lost.

Another correction: The City of Durham Fire Department did not respond, it was Durham Highway Fire Department

  • tiggerthegreat2001 Jan 12, 2010

This is not correct. It was not the homeowners wife, it was his sister and her 2 children. And all are safe with family except the family dog we arent sure if He got out or not. He is truly the hero and sadly missed by the family.
