— A Wake County commissioner announced Monday that he will resign effective immediately.

Stan Norwalk, of Cary, will move to Kansas to be near his family, his wife said.

Norwalk took office in December 2008. His term would have expired in December 2012.

Norwalk co-founded of the education advocacy group Wake Up Wake County in 2005 and served as its vice chairman until he became county commissioner.

I've gotten to know Stan, peripherally. Nice, nice guy. Nearing 80, I think. Married 80 years. Really, I can't blame him for making this shift. Wishing him the best in Kansas.

No it's not possible ...., this guy is quitting his elected position because he's no longer in a majority on his board and he's not getting his way. He's gone off the deep end many, many times and ranted against those he would need to work with in order to get something accomplished that he could actually take credit for.

He's taking his ball and going home. Not even close to a loss for this county or anyone he used to represent.

I have a feeling it has more to do with the current agenda he has been fighting with the school board.

while I do not agree with his politics, he is a very nice man.

Kristen, you don't even know who he is, but you knew he wouldn't last? Wow! Great skills you have there.

Isn't is possible the guy just wants to be near his family folks?

Jobs are difficult to find. If he is moving--he probably wont be able to find a job. I hope he has plenty of money. Always leary of anyone who resigns-- there is always a motive other than the one they give to the public. To be near his family is certainly a good one but I am sure there is much more.

Every time I see someone resign from public office, I think to myself...what did they do? What did they steal? Who did they try to pay off? You can't trust anyone!

How about a picture WRAL? Is he the old guy? Why did I know he wouldn't last?
