Union Baptist services canceled after vandalism
Pastor Russell Sanders canceled services Sunday at Union Baptist Church, and volunteers were working to clean up after the church was vandalized overnight.
Posted — UpdatedRaleigh police arrested Airris Hinton, 44, and charged him with breaking and entering, property damage and probation violations.
Sanders said Hinton was a former member of the congregation. Hinton's record with the state Department of Correction dates back to 1994 and includes multiple assault charges and prison time.
Sanders said nine stained-glass windows were broken in the church, at 600 S. Saunders St. He also reported damage to an air conditioner, some pictures, dry wall and an altar chair.
