UNC police investigating reported burglary in residence hall

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Police Department was investigating early Friday after a burglary was reported at Lewis Residence Hall on north campus.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Police Department was investigating early Friday after a burglary was reported at Lewis Residence Hall on north campus.

A female student told investigators she was sleeping when an man entered her room about 2:40 a.m. When the student woke up, the man quickly fled the room. 

No weapons were seen, and the student was not injured. 

In an alert sent to students at about 5:30 a.m., campus police asked anyone with information about the incident to call the UNC Police Department at 919-962-8100 or Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.

The alert also reminded students to keep dorm room doors locked at all times and not allow strangers to "piggy-back" through entrances to residence halls or any campus buildings.
