Two teens charged after Johnston schools lockdown
Two Smithfield-Selma High School students were arrested Tuesday after they were found carrying BB guns, school officials said Wednesday.
Posted — UpdatedA 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy were charged with possession of BB guns. Their names were not released because they are juveniles.
A spokeswoman with Johnston County Schools said Smithfield-Selma High and Smithfield Middle School were put on a brief lockdown Tuesday morning at the request of law enforcement after they received a report of a man possibly armed with a gun in the vicinity of the schools.
Smithfield police officers and Johnston County sheriff’s deputies conducted a search of the schools and surrounding area. They received information that led them to the two students.
