FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police officers investigating a reported shooting Sunday afternoon shot at one of the alleged victims as he reached for an object and fled from them.

Police said they received a report that someone had fired at an occupied vehicle along McArthur Road, and officers went to the College Lakes neighborhood to talk to possible suspects.

While they were in the 400 block of Shoreline Drive, police said, a silver vehicle belonging to the alleged victims drove by, and officers got information that they had weapons in the vehicle. Officers said they approached the silver vehicle and started to speak with the driver, but one man jumped out of the car and ran, and the driver started to pull away.

As officers ordered him to stop, the driver started to reach for an item and kept on, police said. Officer Robert Ferguson, 43, fired at the vehicle as it left. No one was injured.

Police found the vehicle soon after and arrested the driver.

Antontio Spearman, 24, was charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing a law enforcement officer, and Devonte Lock, 19, was charged with driving with a revoked license and resisting, delaying and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

Police said they expect to file additional charges against the two.

Ferguson, who joined the department in 2008, was placed on administrative duty while the shooting is investigated. That follows standard procedure.

Spearman has five previous convictions, including drug charges, burglary, larceny and unauthorized use of motor conveyance, according to state Division of Adult Correction records. He has served one four-month jail sentence.
