There weren't any billionaires made in North Carolina after Wednesday night's historic Powerball drawing, but two players, including one in Raleigh, did wake up to a cool $2 million.

Winning Powerball tickets that matched all six numbers were sold in California, Tennessee and Florida. The two, $2 million winners in the Tar Heel state matched five numbers but did not hit on the Powerball.

One of the $2 million tickets was sold at the Harris Teeter on Fayetteville Road in Raleigh, and the other was sold at the Food Mart Express on Spring Avenue in Spring Lake, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.

The ticket sold in Raleigh was claimed by a group of six people who work together at a Morrisville pharmaceutical company, according to lottery officials. The group pools its money and plays every time the jackpot rises over $100 million.

The group claimed the prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh, and after the required tax withholdings, took home $1,385,000.

A news release from lottery officials said the other $2 million ticket sold in Spring Lake has not yet been claimed.

There were three other tickets in N.C. that won $100,000, and 14 more took home $50,000.

Wednesday's Powerball sales of $20.9 million helped set a new single-day record for ticket sales in the state at $27.8 million.

The Powerball also recorded $101 million in state ticket sales since the $1.58 billion jackpot began rising more than two months ago. Since 76 cents of every ticket sale went toward education, the staggering jackpot raised $38.4 million for North Carolina schools.
