Two Lejeune Marines killed in Afghanistan

Two Marines based at Camp Lejeune were killed in combat over the weekend, the Defense Department said Monday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Two Marines based at Camp Lejeune were killed in combat over the weekend, the Defense Department said Monday.

Sgt. Marlon Myrie, 25, of Oakland Park, Fla., died Saturday and Gunnery Sgt. Ralph E. Pate, 29, of Mullins, S.C., died Sunday while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan's Helmand province. 

Myrie was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division and Pate was assigned to 2nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, both at Camp Lejeune.
