RALEIGH, N.C. — Fire destroyed a home on Idlewild Avenue in Raleigh Wednesday evening, displacing five people, authorities said.

Two of the residents jumped from second-story windows to escape the flames, according to the other residents of the rooming house.

One man was treated for minor injuries from the fall, resident Joyce Montague said.

"I screamed and screamed, saying 'Y'all get out, get out,'" Montague said. "It scared me to death."

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but residents said they believe it started in the downstairs living area.

Resident Harold Williams said he tried to douse the flames with water.

"They hollered the house was on fire," he said. "The flames just ran me out. I had to jump off the front porch. That is why I am limping."
