One killed in I-440 wreck, DWI suspected

One person was killed after a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 440 near the Interstate 40 split Saturday afternoon.

RALEIGH, N.C. — One person was killed and two others injured after a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 440 near the Interstate 40 split Saturday afternoon.

Raleigh police said Jacob Alexander Press, 21, was driving a 1988 Toyota pickup truck around 5:15 p.m. when he crossed the median near Jones Franklin Road and hit a 2011 Toyota Prius.

Press, the car's driver – Rex Houston Todd, 67 – and his wife, Mary Louise Todd, 66, both of Garner, were taken to WakeMed.

Rex Todd died from his injuries, police said. Press and Mary Louise Todd suffered serious injuries. She was listed in fair condition Sunday night at WakeMed.

Authorities said Press, of 3501-203 Cumberland Creek Road, Raleigh, will be charged with driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, felony death by motor vehicle and felony serious injury by motor vehicle once he is released from the hospital.
