Both drivers die after Raleigh head-on collision

Two drivers have died after colliding head-on Monday afternoon on an Atlantic Avenue bridge in Raleigh, police said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two drivers have died after colliding head-on Monday afternoon on an Atlantic Avenue bridge in Raleigh, police said.

Vance Edward Wilson, 61, of Durham, and Jeri Powell Massey, 55, of Raleigh, were taken to a local hospital after the wreck, and they died some time later.

No one else was in either car.

Atlantic Avenue was closed between Capital Boulevard and East Whitaker Mill Road for nearly 4 hours after the collision, which happened around 4:50 p.m.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation. No other information was released.
