Two charged after Fayetteville bank robbery
Fayetteville police have detained two people in connection with the robbery of a Carter Bank & Trust branch Tuesday afternoon.
Posted — UpdatedLouis Joseph Spano, 30, and Russell Fredrick Culbreth, 34, face common law robbery and conspiracy charges, police said. They were placed in the Cumberland County jail under $25,000 bonds.
Authorities said Spano and Culbreth robbed the bank, at 697 Country Club Road, around 2:45 p.m. and then took off in a Pontiac Grand Am that they then crashed into a fence near McArthur and Rosehill roads, about 3 miles from the bank.
The pair then jumped from the car and ran. Police were able to capture them a short time later.
The search for the suspects prompted a nearby school, College Lakes Elementary School, to briefly go on lockdown.
Investigators later determined that Culbreth and a woman, Nerieda Ferrer, were wanted on charges in West Virginia. Ferrer was also arrested in Fayetteville Tuesday.
