DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham woman has been charged after authorities say she hit two people who were trying to help an injured dog Monday night on Liberty Street.

Margarita Hernandez De La Cruz, 54, is charged with driving while her license was revoked and not having insurance on her vehicle.

Investigators said Jonathan Parker, 47, and Stephanie Wilson, 29, both of Durham, were helping Parker's dog after it was hit at about 8 p.m. in the 1500 block of Liberty Street.

De La Cruz was driving west on Liberty Street when she hit Parker and Wilson, investigators said.

Wilson was taken to a local hospital for the treatment of critical injuries, and Parker was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The dog died as a result of its injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
