Two drivers killed in head-on crash on I-40 in Sampson County

Two people were killed in a wrong-way crash Tuesday on Interstate 40 east of Interstate 95.

FAISON, N.C. — Two people were killed in a wrong-way crash Tuesday on Interstate 40 east of Interstate 95.

The crash occurred after 1 a.m. near Exit 348 for Suttontown Road.

A viewer told WRAL News the driver of a blue Jeep was traveling west in the eastbound lanes. The driver hit another car head-on, killing both drivers.

The State Highway Patrol confirmed Russell Scott Kee, 54, of Grifton, and Kerry Gerald, 20, from Maryland, died.

Officials said Kee was the wrong-way driver.
